The Next EU Climate and Energy Package – EU Climate Policies after 2020

The European Commission has tabled initial proposals for new targets and some changes to key instruments such as the Emissions Trading System (ETS) upon which the EU Heads of State and Government are to make decisions later in 2014. This study assesses the status quo of EU climate and energy policy and experience with the current set of targets and instruments – and distills from it concrete recommendations for a new package for the period until 2030. Biodiversity Narratives and their Implications for International Cooperation - Workshop Series

On 12 and 18 June 2014, project workshops entitled "Biodiversity and development - Different biodiversity narratives and their implications for international cooperation" took place in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) and Quito (Ecuador). The subsequent expert workshop was held in Berlin (Germany) on 3 July 2014. Discussions focused on how different perceptions of nature and biodiversity can potentially lead to divergent conservation and management strategies, and thereby affect development cooperation at the national and local levels.

Ecologic Institute: Science and Policy for a Sustainable World

Ecologic Institute is a transdisciplinary research organization focusing on environmental issues. In addition, the researchers at Ecologic Institute provide policy analyses and consulting services. Ecologic Institute has offices in Berlin, Brussels, Washington DC and San Mateo CA. As a private, independent institute, Ecologic Institute is devoted to the task of addressing the relevant sociopolitical questions of sustainability research and to bring new insights into environmental policy. Innovative research approaches, an orientation toward practice, and a transdisciplinary approach ensure the scientific quality and societal relevance of Ecologic Institute’s work. It encompasses the whole spectrum of environmental topics, including the integration of environmental issues into other policy fields. Ecologic Institute was founded in 1995 and is a partner in the network of the Institute for European Environmental Policy and a member of the Ecological Research Network (Ecornet). Today, around 150 employees and associates are working in international and interdisciplinary project teams. Ecologic Institute is a public interest organization; donations are tax deductible.
